Creating Your Own Tokens

Resources:

• Fabric backing cut to size – 10cm by 15cm
• Scraps of different fabrics/ patterned/ different textures
• Glue
• Buttons
• Beads
• Ribbon
• Lace
• Felt shapes (hearts, stars, bows etc)
• Scissors

Share with the children the resources available.

Point out any patterns or symbols on the scraps of fabric.

Talk about the different textures of the fabric.

Q: Do any of these remind you of any clothes or toys you have? Sometimes different fabrics can bring up feelings or memories.

Explain they are going to create their own tokens, choosing colours and fabric pieces that look special to them. They can stick them on to their piece of cloth and decorate their tokens using any of the resources available to them.
