Building Positive Masculinity in Primary Schools: Meeting RSHE and Safeguarding Expectations

This webinar supports primary schools to promote positive masculinity with confidence, meet RSHE statutory expectations, and embed a culture of respect and early prevention across their school.

Webinar overview

In December last year, the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy was published, linking both masculinity and early prevention as central to tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG). Rather than focusing only on punishment after harm occurs, it aims to reshape how boys understand masculinity before harmful beliefs take root. The new VAWG strategy closely aligns with the expectations set out in the Department for Education (DfE) RSHE Guidance 2025 (Relationships, Sex and Health Education).

The 2025 RSHE framework places stronger emphasis on respectful relationships, consent, online harms, and tackling misogyny, which mirrors the prevention focus in the strategy. With schools having until September this year to implement the changes to their current provision, we are offering a webinar that has been specifically designed to help you:

  • Recognise how the RSHE statutory guidance mirrors the prevention focus of the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy
  • Consider how the VAWG strategy strengthens and reinforces what KCSIE already requires schools to do
  • Identify and understand the drivers and impacts of toxic masculinity
  • Learn and apply the ‘B.E. C.A.L.M’ model to promote positive masculinity
  • Understand how SCARF supports you in implementing your statutory requirements to provide opportunities to develop positive conceptions of masculinity.

Webinar Presenter

Laura Nott began her career as a probation officer before developing a therapeutic groupwork programme for young men affected by domestic abuse, supporting them to build healthier understandings of relationships and masculinity. She later moved into voluntary sector leadership before joining the Lucy Faithfull Foundation in 2021 to lead its multi-disciplinary schools’ team.

Working in partnership with the University of Surrey, Laura led the three-year Everyone’s Safer action research project, helping schools strengthen their response to and prevention of harmful sexual behaviour. She now delivers national training to education professionals, supporting schools to embed early prevention, meet statutory safeguarding duties, and promote positive masculinity with confidence.

Please note this webinar takes place on Thursday 19 March 15.45-17.00 and is for educators only. Afterwards, a recording of this webinar will be made available via our SCARF Teacher Training Portal.
