Friday 12th February

Friday again!

How was your Thursday? Did you think of others? I was in a happy, harmonious, handmade, handwritten heaven yesterday. Can you guess why? Well part of the reason was that I was having a good time making the hearts for my special jar. But there was another reason too. I wonder if you can guess it!

Well, I'll tell you the story! Yesterday, I started work on making my hearts, for the Jar of Hearts present, but I was struggling a bit to think of many ideas for the messages. Then an idea came to me. Ping! Just like that! It's funny how ideas can just pop into your head, sometimes when you're not trying at all! I remembered that on Think of Others Thursday and Friendship Friday, it's all about connecting with other people. Not just thinking about them, or even just talking to them but reaching out to them in other ways - including asking for help if we need it!

So I decided to send a message to my friends.

I asked for help!  I asked everyone if they could help me think of ideas to write on the hearts I've made. I was amazed at how many of them replied and even more amazed at how many brilliant ideas they came up with! I had plenty of ideas in the end. Have a look!

Here's me getting started with all the ideas from my friends!
And here's me adding the finishing touches to the hearts.
Here they are - I used bits of card from our recycling bag. There were so many colourful pieces in there!
And here I am, filling my jar with happy heart-shaped messages!

I thought you might like to see some of the ideas that I was sent. You could use them too, if you're making your jar of hearts! There's still time! Here are some of them...

  1. Give yourself a hug!
  2. You're a star.
  3. You're one in a million!
  4. Be kind to yourself.
  5. You're beautiful inside and out.
  6. If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours!
  7. Never look down on someone unless you're helping them up.
  8. Kindness is free - sprinkle it everywhere!
  9. Made of stardust.
  10. You are my sunshine and you can't see the shadow.
  11. BFF!

And here's a specially lovely thought from my friend Trish, but it was a bit too long to fit onto my hearts! "You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and twice as beautiful as you ever imagined!" And another, "How do you spell LOVE? You don't spell it, you FEEL it!" Aaaah. That one made me think! Oh - and I almost forgot this one, "In a world where you can be anything, be kind, because kindness costs nothing but means everything!"

I'm not the only person who's been busy making a Hearts Jar, either! Oliver sent these pictures of his. And look at the lovely jar! He's decorated it with glitter and coloured wool. Genius! I might do that too. Like I said before - it's not too late!

Thanks again for all the messages and pictures that you're sending to me. I love getting them. It's always exciting to see what you've been doing and making.  You can send them to cle@coram.org.uk

REMEMBER to ask permission from your grown-up at home or teachers at school before you send your message to me.

Stay warm and healthy and happy. Be kind and caring - I'll try to be, too! Have a lovely time next week during the half term sort of holiday and I'll be back the week after that! Oh! I almost forgot! I'll be telling you all about something REALLY exciting that my school is doing for World Book Day on Thursday the 4th of March! Something that maybe you can join in with, too! I'll tell you all about it when I'm next writing my diary!

Love from Harold xxx

Oliver's heart messages.
Getting everything together.
Hey presto! The finished present!
