Activities for whole-school and assembly
Whole-school activities
All About Me Collage Invite older children to visit the classes of younger children and spend some time together creating a piece of art which shows their favourite things. Each child has a cut out picture of their face. This is glued to the page and then a using different colours the children help each other to draw their favourite things. (Strawberries, ice cream, football, teddy bear, math’s, family etc.) The older child can then listen to the ideas of the younger child and help to write these and add to the art work to create a collaborative piece of art together and enjoy getting to know other children better through positive communication. |

Introduce the importance of communication Communication is the sending and receiving of messages, information or ideas between individuals or a group of people. Communication allows us to tell others about our thoughts, feelings, what’s going on, solve problems, ask for help and more. Communication helps us build strong relationships, supports teamwork, solves problems, and allows us to accomplish goals. It also helps us feel better, feel more connected and helps us grow.
On RSE Day Celebrate the diversity of language within your school. Invite children to share a key phrase in a different language they can speak. (This can include sign language.) Read the book ‘The Day the Crayon’s Quit’ by Drew Daywalt The Day the Crayons Quit," a picture book by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers, tells the story of Duncan, a boy who discovers a stack of letters from his crayons complaining about their work. Each crayon has a specific problem they need to communicate, from being overworked to feeling invisible, leading Duncan to find creative solutions to help to make them feel listened to and happy. Each class presents an overview of the activities they have done. Finish by signing the ‘What I am’ song by Singing Hands |
