Introduction to Secondary RSE/RSHP - training for teachers

This 90-minute webinar - available as a recorded session - is aimed at non-specialists who want to understand how best to implement the DfE statutory guidance for RSHE and feel confident in delivering the subject. Every teacher who completes the training will receive up to 12 months access - at no extra cost - to a fully-resourced scheme of work for 11-13 year-olds, covering all the statutory requirements in 36 lesson plans per year, across six half-termly units.

The session will help teachers new to this subject:

  • Understand how to set up a safe learning environment and why this is important
  • Know what is statutory and non-statutory in regards to relationships and sex education/RSHP
  • Recognise the importance of RSE/RSHP as part of a whole-school approach to helping young people to be healthy, happy, and safe
  • Understand non-statutory guidance in relation to best practice and the delivery of RSE/RSHP

The scheme of work covers six suggested half-termly units providing access to quality-assured PSHE lesson plans and resources created by Coram SCARF and other organisations. Each lesson plan has been mapped to the DfE statutory requirements for both Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education, saving you time in finding the right resources that suit your school's needs.

What previous attendees have said

"I feel more confident about teaching the PSHE sex education component."

"I'm more confident in the approach and how to set up class boundaries for a safe space."

"The most useful part was the connections made to the wider subject and how to handle complex issues."
